About Ellen Ranson
I’m a chip off the old Scottish block! My father’s family was in show biz in Glasgow, and I surely acquired those genes. At age 3, I was singing “Yes, We Have No Bananas” at the Pennsylvania State Fair, and from then on, donning a tutu at the drop of a hat, and performing in one way or another in the family living room, at church or in school. I was born and raised in a small town in Western Pennsylvania.

At age 17, I headed for New York as a dance major at Juilliard. Classical ballet was a short-lived goal. I quickly found that acting was what I really wanted. Throughout my childhood, my two siblings were much older than I so I spent a good deal of time alone, with a myriad of house pets, and - making up stories, acting our fantasies, writing. I still enjoy writing - monologues, scenes and especially keeping journals of the human interest angle of the 41 countries I’ve been to the past 20 years, including Siberia, Tajikistan and Uganda. I often travel with my husband on US government sponsored teaching stints. I’ve done stage work in several foreign countries, as well as around Colorado.

When my mother died at age 97, she left a published book of her poetry entitled “Passionate Journey” that indeed described her life, as it does mine. This passionate journey has brought me to fulfillment of a dream put on hold till the responsibilities of a young wife and mother were completed. From the title role in “Mame”, bitchy Martha in “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolfe?”, to the tough but tragic Fonsie in “The Gin Game”, the stage has literally lit up my life in these - my “golden” years. Now the very different requirements of film work has offered me yet another challenge. I am blessed with good health, dreams, memories of world travels and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, experience, bursts of applause, music, camera, lights and action! My goal is to stay involved in theatre............and to represent aging America in a commercial venue. I’m still on that Passionate Journey!
